Gravel cycling takes place on unpaved and mixed-surface roads—gravel, dirt, forest roads, trails, and the occasional paved connector. It blends road-bike speed with off-road stability, letting riders escape traffic, explore remote areas, and link together terrain a normal road bike can’t handle. Routes often offer scenery you’d never see otherwise. The gravel community is known for being relaxed, inclusive, and focused on perseverance, camaraderie, and finishing the course. We ride everywhere!

Roger has been riding bikes for his entire life and loves exploring. That transitioned into exploring further and further out, eventually discovering the roads in the Campbell Global tree farm on his road bike, then a cyclocross bike, and now on gravel bikes. Although finding all the hidden trails and dirt roads in the local neighborhoods is still fun! He began racing mountain bikes around 2010 and cyclocross and gravel races not too long after. He found the Avanti (Recycled Cycles Racing) team through friends shortly after, and it was an easy decision to join. He has been on the team for over a decade now. Roger is known for pioneering some popular gravel routes and organizing annual rides in the area. He frequently helps scout new routes with others, such as Tom Sumter, for their popular organized events. He is happy to teach you tips and tricks of the discipline, and to take you out on a ride for some amazing sights!

We accept members of all skill levels and all disciplines. Recycled Cycles riders enjoy a supportive group with many activities as well as race reimbursements and Category 1/2 incentives. We also get support from our partners which includes discounts on equipment and services.
The only requirements to be part of the team are an annual fee, purchase of one kit per year and volunteer at one of our designated races.
